Every week someone asks us the same question: "What does a 3D website actually cost?" Most agencies dodge it with "it depends." Here's a straight answer.
The short version
A production-grade interactive 3D website — real-time WebGL, custom motion, mobile-safe fallbacks — typically runs $5,000–$12,000 for a landing experience. At GenOS our 3D Hero Sites start at $5,000 with a fixed scope and a 2–4 week timeline.
That's not a template with a spinning cube dropped in. It's a bespoke interactive 3D website built with React Three Fiber, custom GLSL shaders, and performance engineering so it runs at 60fps and still works on a phone.
What drives the price
Three things move the number:
- Custom shader work. Off-the-shelf effects are cheap. A signature look — dispersion glass, a bespoke particle system, a shader nobody else has — takes real engineering time.
- Scroll choreography. A static 3D scene is one thing. A scene that reacts to scroll, cursor, and section transitions is a motion-design project on top of the 3D.
- Performance guardrails. The hard part isn't making it look good on your machine — it's making it fast everywhere. DPR clamping, fallback rendering, and reduced-motion handling are what separate a demo from a product.
When 3D is worth it (and when it isn't)
3D is worth it when being remembered is the point — a product launch, a premium brand, a portfolio that has to out-class competitors. It is not worth it for a page whose only job is to rank for a keyword and convert on price. Use the right tool for the job.
